sue devitt eye velvet.

[rhyming unintentional. maybe.]

I joined Influenster several months ago. It has been an incredibly fun and informative experience thus far. I especially enjoy being able to share great products on my blog, on twitter, and elsewhere.

JOIN INFLUENSTER!!
http://www.influenster.com

On another note..
Influenster was kind enough to send me Sue Devitt's Eye Intensifier Pencil to try out.
I am MILDLY obsessed..okay..under-exaggeration of the century..
BEST EYE PENCIL I HAVE EVER TRIED!!!

They sent me the eye pencil in Golden Triangle:

Product description from suedevitt.com:
"Long Lasting, Water-Resistant Eyeliner Pencil
Intensify your own eye color naturally with the rich, shades and velvety formulation that glides on extra smooth for fool-proof application.Ceramide 2, Hyaluronic Filling Spheres and Nylon-12 anti-aging ingredients lock in moisture and  expand and contract with facial movements without creasing to create a long-lasting, luminous eye. The Eye Intensifier Pencil can be applied along the base of the eyelid and bottom lash line for an intense smoky look or may be used to create an effortless "quick-eye" with minimal blending for a maximum effect."

I was a little hesitant to go outside my comfort zone of black eyeliner, or black with glitter [don't judge] but I was pleasantly surprised.

This color really accented my eyes and enhanced their color. [I have light hazel eyes.] The formula glided on like a dream, and had true staying power, unlike other eyeliners I have tried that melt, rub off, or just fade away as the day or night progresses, with or without primer [I did not use any primer with this product].

VERY HAPPY CAMPER!!

I have officially switched to Sue Devitt Eyeliner, and I won't be looking back.

bri's beauty blog verdict: A KEEPER.

beta.

 I'm a convert.

Not to over-exaggerate, but the day that my Beta Wash arrived, my life, and more importantly, my skin changed forever.

I have been using the Erno Laszlo Beta Wash, that Erno Laszlo so graciously shared with me, for the past few weeks, and I have noticed some remarkable and dramatic changes in my skin.

I have oily skin, and lately it has a bit acne prone. Stress, life, changes in lifestyle, and occasionally poor diet changes has caused those little buggers to pop up a little bit. I had tried other face washes to no avail. When this miracle in a bottle arrived, I had a good feeling, and boy was I right.

I opened the bottle, and it smells like a minty, smooth, and delicate breeze. It's refreshing and stimulating, and I was thrilled [and honored] to be trying a product with such rich and wonderful history.

Some of the more famous past clients of Erno Laszlo include: Audrey Hepburn, Jackie Kennedy, Marilyn Monroe [my heroine], and Greta Garbo, among many, many others.

Many current celebrities are fans, including [but not limited to]; Nicole Kidman, Jessica Biel, and Jim Carey.

Getting back to the Beta Wash..

According to Erno Laszlo's product page,

"Acne wash for normal to oily skin

Beta Wash is a powerful oil-free gel cleanser with algae extracts to detoxify the skin and chamomile to calm irritation. It also contains beta hydroxy acid, to combat breakouts, plus rosemary, sage, and myrrh - known botanical acne healers. It penetrates pores to interrupt the acne production cycle and absorbs oil without dehydrating the skin. Perfect for teenagers and adults alike" (Erno Laszlo's Beta Wash).

This product not only smells great, it delivers what it promises, and so much more.

My skin is smoother, less oily, more refined, and my pores have decreased in size.
I CAN'T get enough of the AH-mazing smell, texture, and rinsing ritual:

I am absolutely in love with this brand and this product, and I CANNOT get enough. I really look forward to trying more.
The products come in INCREDIBLY GENEROUS sizes [the Beta Wash is 6.8 oz.]
$40 for that much miracle? A STEAL.
These products pay for themselves and are very reasonable given the size, the ingredients, and the results.

It was a sincere pleasure trying this product and I thank Erno Laszlo for sharing their product with me.

smelly cat.

If you know what my title is a reference to..you rock!
Well, you rock anyway. :)

I had been wanting to try Zoya Nail Polish for a while, so I finally ordered one of her polishes with my bloom.com purchase. SO HAPPY I DID!

I ordered Phoebe, a "Bright azure with fine electric blue and violet shimmer with a velvety matte finish. The matte finish amplifies the bright color; this is a matte that positively glows" (zoya.com).

Pictures don't do this beauty justice!

A very versatile blue, the perfect pop of color for summer. My wardrobe palate consist of a lot of darker colors, or white, so this shade spices up my look perfectly.

It's very easy to apply, feels velvety smooth to the touch, and does wear longer than some other Matte formulas out there.

Zoya's Phoebe can be purchased here: Zoya Phoebe Nail Polish
at $8 a bottle, very affordable! A great formula, excellent wear, no foul odors, and a GORGEOUS shade of blue.

"Color Family Blues

Color Finish Matte

Color Intensity 5 ( 1=Sheer - 5=Opaque )

Color Tone

Original Collection Mod Mattes

About Matte Nail Polish

Matte Nail Polish color by Zoya is intended to be worn with a base coat, but not a top coat or speed dryer of any kind. Due to the unique matte Zoya Matte Nail Polish color is not as long-wearing as traditional nail color. A completely clean, dry nail surface yields the best results for matte nail color wear. For best results make sure to always prepare nail with Zoya Remove (3-in-1 nail polish remover, nail plate cleaner and new color prep) prior to applying color" (zoya.com)

VERY HAPPY CUSTOMER! :D
I will be back...

heaven in your hands.

[and on them too! :)]

So, as we all know by now I have an affinity for Deborah Lippmann's line of products. Can you blame me? Well, I have always wanted to try her Helping Hand manicure scrub, but alas, it is no longer available on her site.

On top of being a beauty junkie, I'm quite the deal hunter. After scouring the internet for some time, I found it on one of my favorite places on earth, eBay.

[note:upon researching for this article I discovered this is still available here: nordstrom's deborah lippmann helping hand manicure scrub. $34 you're welcome.]

After winning it, paying for it, and checking the shipping status/tracking information religiously for a few days, it arrived.

Product Description:
A Lippmannn favorite, revamped. Mani-pedis aren't just about gorgeous nails—they're about beautifying hands and feet, too. With this star scrub from the Deborah Lippmann, you can get hands and feet soft and smooth faster than ever. In the past, the treatment required an activator step to freshen up skin. Now it's a single process, so you're one step away from deep exfoliation and hydration. Make your mani-pedi complete with this pampering essential.

This mandarin crystal hand scrub gently buffs the delicate skin of the hands to reveal brighter, radiant skin that's instantly younger and firmer looking. The scrub now allows for deeper exfoliation and deeper penetration of essential oils into the skin.

I used it, and can I just say, this stuff beats any manicure I have ever had in my entire life.
I followed the directions, and my hands felt INSTANTLY softer, my cuticles more tame, and the overall look, touch, feeling, etc. of my hands DRAMATICALLY improved in just one use.

AMAZING!

Truly delivers what is promised!!

Totally in love.

Thank you, yet again, Deborah Lippmann, for making such incredible products that pay for themselves in so many ways.

meaningful beauty.

So, many of you have probably heard of Meaningful Beauty by Guthy-Renker by now.

Oh you haven't?
Well, let me tell you all about it.

I'm a member of influenster.com, and in their June VoxBox they sent several products. One of my personal favorites? The Meaningful Beauty collection.

This is the skincare that Cindy Crawford uses.

You can use the same products a supermodel uses! Pretty neat. And, more importantly, it truly delivers everything it promises. I was hesitant to try it, because I don't buy in to infomercial products, but I was pleasantly surprised with this line.

In my opinion, Cindy has always been a bombshell. Honestly, she looks even more beautiful at this age, and I have a sneaking suspicion this product line might have something to do with it.

My skin texture has improved dramatically. A lot of my large pores I was really starting to notice [and became self-conscious about] have shrank quite a bit. Some of the fine lines on my forehead have smoothed. I am one happy customer!!

The products smell good and a little bit goes a long, long way.

My favorite product that I have tried from this line is..

The Glowing Serum.

On days when I don't have time to put my face on I put a drop of this on my palm, let it warm up, I rub it between my palms for a second, then I rub it, very gently, on my cheeks, forehead, nose, and my chin. I look awake, alive, and I have a very healthy glow to my face. This is the best glowing product I have EVER tried.

i will gladly buy whatever he is selling.

whoever dreamed this up is a genius. i think it's funny that a lot of people didn't/don't realize that he's british. so silly.
seriously though..I WILL BUY WHATEVER THIS MAN IS SELLING. for my future boyfriend. whether he likes it or not. :P

follow the yellow brick road.

Summer classes. They run your life.

ANYWAYS!!

I ordered some more goodies from Deborah Lippman:
http://lippmanncollection.com/2011dl/index_new.php

I was SO stoked when i saw Yellow Brick Road. The Wizard of Oz is one of my favorite films, so the fact that Deborah and her camp are keeping up with that whole theme [I have yet to try Ruby Red Slippers..which is next on my list!] really makes me smile.

I placed my order for Yellow Brick Road and Soul Mission.

I am IN LOVE with Yellow Brick Road! It is THE PERFECT summer shade. It's not as bright as it looks on the net, it's a more mellowed-out, subtle, sheer, and SCRUMPTIOUS yellow. It wears well with pretty much everything, and this formula holds up particularly nice. I am so glad I bought it! This will be this blogger's go-to summer shade. You should DEFINITELY check it out!! :)

I already knew Deborah Lippmann was a total nail goddess and lovely person, but they totally made my week when I opened up my package and saw they shared a treat with me.. my FAVORITE top coat out there!!  On A Clear Day is the perfect top coat. It really extends the life of your manicure/nail polish, it is the only top coat I use whether I am wearing one of the Lippmann hues or not.

ON A CLEAR DAY<br>ultra-glossy top coat

This ultra-glossy top coat protects your manicure with a chip-resistant formula and a UV inhibitor so polish does not discolor or fade. For best results, allow nail color to dry, then apply a thin coat.
- Formulated with an ultra violet light inhibitor to prevent yellowing of whites and soft pinks, and discoloring of darker shades
- Leaves nails with a glossy, high shine finish
- Apply every two to three days to extend the life of manicure

Alright guys and dolls..I really hope you will check out these awesome products for yourself, you won't be disappointed!!

colors of the week.

Finals hell=over. Moving on.

New feature: my nail obsessions of the week.

Currently rocking: Deborah Lippmann's Waking Up in Vegas. A perfect putty gray. GaGa goes gaga over it. One of my favorites. Gray is the new black [in regards to nails anyways]. I find myself wearing a lot more gray lately [in clothing] too though.

Weird. Anyways, Deborah's formulas stay on for DAYS and DAYS. Looks like a pro manicure. If you haven't tried her potions yet, go for it. The Stripper is fantastic too.

This smells AH-mazing. It's nail polish remover that ZAPS polish off super quick and has a relaxing scent. What more could a girl short on time ask for?

Yes, The Lippman Collection comes with a little bit a of a price tag, but if I have learned anything in life [thus far] YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR. I'm a Lippmann convert and will pay whatever for her products, and apparently so will a lot of other people. :) [I only say that because I was just on her site and several of her products are completely sold out, YOU GO GIRL!!]

bri's american tendencies mash up video.

bri's mash up. from briana beauty on Vimeo.

This video was a lot of fun to put together. Compiling all of the videos and music featured was a bit daunting to do, but once I found everything it was relatively easy to cut, crop, edit, etc. everything I wanted so it fit together well. There are a lot of excellent resources out there for mash ups. I enjoyed the entire process with the exception of going through all of the video clips to find what I needed. I will definitely do this again!

Becher-inspired Grid.

This is a Becher-inspired grid for school. It's the Strongsville water tower. I wanted to do a Tin Man can but couldn't get directions to one of them. Maybe next time! This took me HOURS to put together. The alignment might not be exact but I think it still looks pretty good.

It was a very overcast day, so the photos look almost black and white. The only editing that was done to these photographs was the histogram was slightly adjusted on each image. The only true "color" you see are the trees/nature and the lettering/art on the water tower. I think this was a great day to shoot, it gives it a more authentic Becher feel.

Edited and put together with Aviary Phoenix.

L'OCCITANE Lavender Hand Cream..AKA Pure Heaven.

A few years ago, due to a sympathetic nerve condition, my hands, particularly my left one, became very dry. I tried every hand cream and lotion known to man. Nothing would soothe my scaly paws. I tried and tried to no avail. I tried brands from the mall, brands from health food stores, doctor-recommended brands, nothing.

One day I decided to do some research. I discovered that L'OCCITANE's hand creams have some excellent moisturizing capabilities. So after looking through, I believe it was beauty.com, I decided to order their Lavender Hand Cream.

Boy, am I happy I did!!

"A signature L'Occitane essential. A worldwide best-seller. Blends the nourishing benefits of Shea Butter with soothing A.O.C. lavender essential oil and rosemary extract. Contains vitamin E, shown to help encourage cell renewal, and--for sheer pleasure--bestows the subtle fragrances of the Mediterranean upon your senses. Feel transported to Provence with every application."
 [c.o. http://usa.loccitane.com/FO/Lavender-Hand-Cream,p15MA075L9.htm+photo also c.o. of same site.]

Three years later, I am an absolute devotee. This cream smells like heaven. It is calming, relaxing, delicious, and divine. It smells good enough to eat, literally. I don't recommend it though.

After each use, it soothes and calms my irritated skin. My hands appear softer and in far better condition than prior to using this magical elixir.

I just wanted to thank L'OCCITANE for formulating this wonderful creation. It is the only thing that has helped my skin, it's pure in its ingredients, and literally smells like no other lavender lotion or cream out there. THANK YOU! :)

Ava Gardner FaceSwap via Aviary Phoenix.

This..was mildly aggravating.
Another assignment for school.
The program kept freezing when I was trying to edit..
I spent a good amount of time on this..
I prefer Photoshop to this..but this is a great program comparative to Photoshop.

It's Ava Gardner originally..so it's her hair with my face.
I put in a considerable amount of time and effort in getting this image close enough to make it look authentic. I cropped, edited, magiced, highlighted, darkened, contrasted, etc. etc. etc.
[my photo was a color photo, and I had to reverse it too, among other things!]
I re-started several times.
The bottom of my face did not blend as well as I wanted to, and I did attempt to fix this several times but it just wasn't turning out correctly, so I did the best I could!

My professor said this was going to take a while, he wasn't kidding!!

Besides the program freezing and not working for me quite a few times, it's a good program for those who don't want to blow green on Photoshop.

Here is the original image..

Urban Decay EYESHADOW PRIMER POTION.

You've got a hot date tonight. Your hair is perfect. You found a steal of a LBD [little black dress] at the mall. Cute shoes. Your makeup is just right..or so you think.
He's on time. The little dive he chose is surprisingly romantic. Candles and dim lighting. Everything is going perfectly. You excuse yourself to go powder your nose. You leave the table, open the door to the bathroom, go in, and want to cry! Your eyeshadow and eyeliner have you looking like a raccoon!!

Thank goodness this was just a story. There is a way to avoid your eye makeup winding up everywhere it shouldn't be...

Urban Decay EYESHADOW PRIMER POTION.

I use the original shade, which blends perfectly into my eyelid/eye area absolutely flawlessly. It allows seamless blending of my eye shadows, glitters, etc. It keeps my eye makeup looking fresh for hours and hours. If i forget to take off my makeup when I wake up the next morning my eyes look the same as the night before..it's pretty remarkable.

Ladies, this is the perfect way to ensure a gorgeous, stay put, and beautiful look. It's easy, foolproof application means no mess, no fuss. One step, one swipe, a little bit of blending into your skin, and done. One extra step to make sure you look fabulous and smudge-free!

A Day in the Life..

UPDATED!!

Another project for school..

ENJOY!!

xoxo

Lancome Définicils Precious Cells.

Growing up I always associated Lancome with old ladies. My grandma used it, all of my friends moms used it [no, I didn't think they were "old", but they were moms..], and it just seemed like a brand for the more mature and experienced woman.

I shopped at Lancome for some new lipstick a few years ago, and I became a believer. They have excellent products at fair prices and they really deliver.

My current favorite makeup products of theirs? Définicils Precious Cells.

I was shocked when I tried it. I ordered it on a whim and was pleasantly surprised. When I first opened the tube I thought to myself, "what a puny, miniscule-looking brush.." but boy, was I EVER wrong!!

The brush allows the formula to go on smoothly and evenly. The formula itself pumps up your lashes for a beautiful, more natural look. It looks like you're not even wearing mascara, you look like you're just one of those lucky ladies born with mile-long, curvy, and sexy lashes.

According to lancome.com:
"The most beautiful eyes have a secret. Experience the first caring mascara from Lancôme that visibly regenerates the condition of lashes* Reveal beautifully defined, fuller, stronger lashes. Its secret is the Lash Densifier Complex, with a precious plant cell extract, which helps regenerate lash condition, so they’re stronger, denser and less likely to fall-out during makeup removal.

*With bare lashes, after 4 weeks."

I have been using this mascara more than any of my others, with the exception of Smashbox's Lash DNA. They both are fantastic and beautiful products. Smashbox's Lash DNA does deliver a bit more OOMPH, and VAVAVAVOOM! than Lancome's Precious Cells, but it just depends on the look you are trying to achieve.

As a sidenote, Lancome.com's product description is accurate. Since I started using this product my lashes have felt and looked more strong and defined.

Cool Hand Blue.

If you know what movie reference I'm using in my title, you're awesome!!

Okay, you're awesome anyway.

So, I'm a mascara junkie, but I am also a nail polish junkie, in the worst possible way. Wherever I go, I always manage to find nail polish. I prefer my nail polish to be heavy chemical-free. Formaldehyde is for dead people, not my nails.

One of my favorite "clean" nail polish brands is Essie. They have some of the most gorgeous and vibrant hues as well. The price point is very fair as well. You get a high quality formulation for relatively little bank.

My current Essie obsession? smooth sailing. essie.com describes this shade as "a breezy lavender blue with a reflection of pearl", and I must admit, that is right on point!!

It definitely looks more blue when on the nail, but as with most polishes, it looks different in different lighting.

[see photo below for what I am talking about.]

I think the second photo is a more true depiction of what the color really looks like.
Regardless, it's a gorgeous color! I typically do two coats of polish, and this particular shade lasted me about five days without needing a touch up or reapplication. This color is perfect for breezy summer days at the beach, and is equally as elegant for a fun night out on the town with friends, or even a date night! I am very happy with this shade, and other Essie shades, and at about $8 a pop where can you go wrong?

Have you used Essie? What's your favorite Essie shade? Let me know!!

A good Foundation is the Secret to a Flawless Face.

There's nothing quite like the feeling of feeling your skin breathe. A lot of the foundations I have experimented with have left my skin screaming for an oxygen mask. I prefer powder over liquid because the majority of the liquids I have used clogged my pores like no other and left my real skin looking blotchy and gross. The only liquid that I have actually liked being applied to my face is, well, really any of MAC's liquid foundations. I am a fan of most MAC products, but that's another story for another time.

I take that back. I am a fan of Almay's smart shade smart balance makeup.

It is light and goes on sheer and blends with my skin perfectly. I have to use the light shade because my face skin is fair, but tans easily. I'm weird, I know. Olive undertones help with that issue I suppose.

Anyways!

My all-time favorite foundation, without question, is Bare Escentuals Bare Minerals Original SPF15 Foundation. I have yet to try the Matte formulation, but this is my standby. It blends away imperfections effortlessly and leaves a flawless complexion, and when applied correctly, does not leave a trace of looking "makeupy" or caked on. I use a smaller blush or q tip to blend away blemishes and then I use a powder blush or kabuki blush to apply this all over my face. Then I highlight my face with either a blush, like NARS orgasm, or a bronzer. After all is said and done, I set my makeup with their Mineral Veil. Mineral Veil sops up any remaining shine, and the combination of products leaves my face with a rosy and dewy complexion. I have been using these products since I was in middle school, I am definitely a lifer!!

This was taken while wandering the expansive art museum grounds. They really take care of the property. The marble is unbelievable! The architecture of the building is really beautiful as well. This is yet another favorite location of mine. I used a unique editing process on this one too, I wonder if you can tell what I did..

1960s cleveland clinic.

This photograph was snapped after the second shoot of the day, on my way home. The Cleveland Clinic is an internationally-known and respected hospital system with various location. In downtown Cleveland, it's massive. It has its own zip code! [just a fun fact for those who didn't know.] This is part of one of their buildings. Since it has been around for many years I decided to edit it to look like this was taken during the 1960s, one of the coolest decades to have been alive!

This is a photography of the stairs leading up to the doors of Severance Hall. My high school graduation took place here. It's one of my favorite buildings in Cleveland. The interior architecture is even more exquisite than the exterior architecture. I edited this to look creepy, which I happen to be a big fan of. The darker, creepier, and more macabre the better!

I like unique looking doors. That might be a weird thing to find intriguing, but it's one of the things I'm looking for when I'm walking around a city or I'm at a friends. This is the first time I have ever seen blue doors, so I had to take a picture. This was also taken by Dave's Market. If you look in one of my other Urban Landscapes albums you will see a closeup of the door on the right. The lock is really cool too!

I found this lovely wall while walking outside by Dave's Market. I just really love the texture of the wall, the color, everything. By utilizing Picnik I was able to really increase the overall vibrancy of this image. It was a mild orange, but I'm personally a fan of brighter colors, and I think I accomplished this!

A note to my tweeps: I also use this blog for a class, so from time to time [like right now!] you may see some of my photography. I happen to think it's beautiful, which goes along with the theme of beauty!
